Moments of Chaos: Remaining Centered in Uncertain Times

The great Way is easy, yet people prefer the side paths. Be aware when things are out of balance. Stay centered within the Tao. When rich speculators prosper While farmers lose their land; when government officials spend money on weapons instead of cures; when the upper class is extravagant and irresponsible while the poor have nowhere to turn- all this is robbery and chaos. It is not in keeping with the Tao.”

Lao Tzu

Where do we start with this? The recent murder of George Floyd by an officer in uniform has caused an uproar in our country today that has not been seen in some time. This is not the first incident where a minority has been killed this year. With Covid-19, lockdowns, mass unemployment, and an upcoming election on the way, many among us who were paying attention knew it was only a matter of time before an event would trigger uncontrollable violence and destruction.

Some among us knew the current protests and riots were long overdue. Everyone seems to be picking a side and you may not know where to go. I won’t claim to have the right answer for you, but I can at least tell you where I may be headed. Whether you wish to take the same path I choose is up to you, but at the very least. I’ll show you what possibilities I wish to consider.

The first and best immediate action I will take is to not engage in pointless arguments online over current events. There’s nothing worse one can do right now than express strong opinions with strangers online with cancel culture looming over our heads. Some people can get away with it since they have multiple streams of income and maybe their livelihood depends on debating current events. For the rest of us, however, it is best to stay out of the war of words over things in which you have no control over and focus inward. There’s no telling what others are willing to do to you just to feel like they’ve won something. I’m keeping to myself. One must prepare for the worst.

Seeing is how we’re on the subject of freedom, I plan to maximise my own. If I want cancel culture off my neck and not to have to worry about being unprepared, I’m going to restock the best I can. So far, I have the supplies I need for a while, but that can stop very soon if the stores are burned down. I also will have to develop multiple streams of income so that when the internet decides to attempt to bury me, I won’t be so worried about losing a job. I’ve been saving money as well (something everyone needs to do regardless of financial status). The last thing anyone should be worried about is having some place to live or where their next meal is coming from.

I also plan to remain in touch with every connection I have. Friends, family, and any associates who can help you in these desperate times are essential. Very few people can do it alone. I may be a bit of a lone wolf, but that doesn’t mean I want to do everything alone. Family counts when no one else is around. I’ll keep in touch with my contacts. Everyone should stay connected to someone they love.

The best thing I can do is remain calm, focused, and driven towards my mission in life. The most dangerous weapon in the universe is a focused mind. I can focus on my own goals and life while remaining aware of the situation outside. The worst thing anyone can do is get off their center of balance in life right now. In times of chaos, it is often cooler heads that prevail. Remain in the center, Daydreamers.

Until the next Daydream….
