“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
The Bible
How many times have we been promised that one can have it all? The great career, family life, and quality of life that we all dream of has been promised to us as long as anyone can remember. The problem with this paradigm is the fact that no one has EVER had everything they wanted. People tend to take the path of least resistance because they are afraid of something that is required to achieve anything worth striving for: Sacrifice.
Humanity is a species with an extremely limited lifespan yet people wish to act as if forever exists. They never want the party to stop. The good times are what they chase despite knowing that chasing comfort instead of accomplishment only makes them easier to control. Ironically, they sacrifice ever achieving anything worth gaining for the sake of the safety of instant comfort and gratitication.
The reason for this is because humans wish to gain as much as they can in as little time as possible. They would rather take a pill to lose weight as opposed to eating right and exercising for an hour five days a week. They spend ridiculous amounts of money for a quick fix instead of doing things the way they were meant to be done. Why would they rather pays hundreds of dollars on pills as opposed to doing burpees and avoiding sugar? Simple. They want results right now.
“To attain knowledge, add things every day. To attain wisdom, remove things every day.”
Lao Tzu
Life is a series of trade-offs and compromises. You’re going to lose something to gain something. The only reason anyone ever gains anything is because they eventually come to terms with the fact that they cannot have everything. Sacrifice also has the added benefit of helping one remember why what they are trying to accomplish is important. When someone understand what has to be given up, they are left with a choice as to whether it is important enough to give up everything for or to just let it go.
No matter what happens, one must remember sacrifice is simply inevitable. Give up trying to hold onto everything. Otherwise, you’ll end up with nothing at all.
